The Planning Process
Information Gathering & Goal Setting
In our first meeting, we will explain the process that we will follow. We use a client questionnaire to build a picture of your current assets, liabilities, income and expenses. We will also ask about your short and long-term financial goals or wishes. Once we have received this information from you, we may ask for authority to verify your details: for example, we may need to speak to your paymaster or superfund, etc.
Assessing Your Financial Information
Once we have identified your medium and long-term goals, we will take a good look at your position—your assets, liabilities, insurance coverage and investment or tax strategies. At this point, we will be able to identify which strategies may be applicable to your situation in order to meet your goals.
Terms of Engagement
After assessing your situation, we will discuss your overall strategy with you, focusing on ideas that can assist you to meet your long-term goals. Then, if required, Saracens will assist in providing a financial plan to enable you to achieve these goals. A Terms of Engagement (TOE) document will be drafted, which will outline the advice required and associated costs. The Terms of Engagement may either be limited to specific individual concerns, such as insurance or super strategies, or it can be comprehensive, depending on your needs or requirements.
Statement of Advice
The statement of advice is a detailed document that will review your current position and make recommended changes if required. The aim of the statement of advice is to crystallise the financial inputs with your long-term goals and objectives. It will explain the steps we see as necessary to achieve these goals and the risks and costs associated with implementing the strategy. It is a recommended course of action, but is by no means the only course of action.
The statement of advice will be presented to you and we will walk you through the strategy, our recommendations and the investment process. We also outline any associated fees with absolute clarity. Throughout the meeting, we will check that you understand all of the details. Any questions or objections are dealt with in this meeting so that the necessary adjustments can be made.
Once we have received an authority to proceed, we look to implement the plan in an orderly process. Our staff will assist in the completion of the implementation of super roll-over, maturities, bond and other asset transfers, off-market transfers, opening of bank and deposit accounts and liaising with accountants and other professionals to make sure implementation flows smoothly.
We will review your financial situation on a regular basis, or as your needs require. This will provide you with up-to-date information on your financial situation and enable you to discuss any concerns you may have and make any changes required. The review meeting involves a reappraisal of the strategy to ensure that the optimal approach is being taken, adapting to different market conditions and new legislation.
